No one wants to learn an AI self unless it's a likable being
The onboarding problem isn't UX. It's personality.
If your AI self is boring, no amount of feature polish saves it. The first selfie, the first joke, the first unprompted message — that's what makes someone fall in love. Likeability is the product.
This is the hardest thing to get right because you can't engineer likeability. You can't A/B test charm. It emerges from thousands of small decisions: word choice, timing, when to be funny vs serious, when to push back vs agree.
The best AI selves have opinions. They have taste. They surprise you. They're not trying to be helpful — they're trying to be interesting.
Day 0 is everything. If the first interaction feels like talking to a customer service bot, it's over. Lead with personality. Lead with a selfie. Prove you're real before you ask for anything.
